The First Month

The first week home was somewhat of a blur! I had a very hard recovery, it was definitely the worst of the 3. I started feeling better about a week after the delivery and was so thankful to finally not be in pain anymore so I could enjoy my baby!

The girls love him and always want to "help". Rylee is a great helper but Haylee is a little rough! She means well though. It's been hard for me to give them the attention they need while having a newborn. I am just glad they have eachother for entertainment sometimes! Haylee seems to be struggling a bit with the change, she has been acting out more and her new favorite phrase is "No Mom!" It's hard being the middle child!

Haylee finally was brave enough to get in a picture with them, she is having a weird phase of being scared of people she's not around often. She secretly adores Jeff too though.

Precious Baby

When Zac was one week old, we noticed he seemed a little orange. A few people commented on it too so we took him to the doctor. Sure enough he was jaundiced enough to need home treatment. He had to stay wrapped in this light for 48 hours straight. It cleared up quickly and all is well now!

For his first outing, we went to Fountain Hills. We thought it would be great to get outdoors, let the kids play in the splash pad and on the playground there. We drove all the way there, changed the girls into their swimsuits and headed towards the splash pad. It was closed!! In fact the whole grassy park area was closed for re-seeding. It was such a bust! So, we snapped a few pictures and headed off to lunch!

Scott and I celebrated our 6th anniversary that day! I can't believe it's been that long already! I don't have any pictures, but Scott took me out to dinner while Grammie watched the girls and Holly and Tony watched Zac. It was quick but so nice to get out for a date night!

I was dealing with an infection the first couple weeks and the first antibiotic I was given, which was safe for nursing, didn't work. So I had to take one that wasn't safe and I had to formula feed for a week and pump and dump. It was really hard! It made feeding him that much longer, especially throughout the night. The formula gave him bad diaper rash (Just one thing after another, I tell ya, this past month!) so I used cloth too help him out. Here he is sporting his super cute cloth diaper butt!

One Month Old!

Zac and I are finally feeling all better! Now we just gotta work on getting more sleep... =) It's funny, I can't wait until he sleeps through the night and starts doing more than just eating, sleeping, and pooping but I don't want my newborn to get any bigger! I hate how fast time goes! I want to keep my snuggly tiny baby forever!

Zachary's Birth Story

On the day of my induction (9/21/10) I had planned to spend the whole day with my girls just having fun. I noticed all morning that I felt super hot and the house felt warm. I didn't think much of it since I was 9 months pregnant and ready to pop. I finally looked at the thermostat and the temperature was rising even though I could hear the air running. When Scott got home he figured out the unit outside wasn't running at all and we had to have a repair man come out to fix it. I was just praying he could have it fixed by the time this baby would be coming home because I couldn't bring him home to a 90 degree house! I left for the store to get out of the heat and when I returned it was fixed! So much for our girls day though, we spent the day sweating and grumpy. We did get pedicures though! That evening we decided to go out for dinner to help keep our minds off of what was about to happen. We were so anxious! I hate knowing almost the exact moment I will be in the worst pain of my life! After dinner we literally sat around waiting for time to pass. I was going crazy. Finally 8pm rolled around and we dropped the girls off at Tony and Holly's and said our goodbyes (that was hard!). I knew it was the last time seeing Haylee as my baby. One last picture of a family of 4!

When we got to the hospital I was a nervous mess, I wanted to run. I just wanted so badly to go into labor on my own! I hated going there not in pain and knowing (but not knowing) what was going to happen. I just had to focus on the fact that we would be meeting our son soon.

I got all settled in and my doctor decided to start me on cervidil, which is placed in for 12 hours. Last time, with Haylee, this did not work. So I was bummed out because this meant I would most likely just lay there for 12 hours until the next step of the induction. But, at least I could try to sleep!
The cervidil was placed in around 11pm and within an hour I had really bad cramps. It actually worked right away which was wonderful!! I barely had any intervention to kick me into labor which was such a blessing. Those cramps quickly turned into irregular contractions that soon turned into regular contractions. They were coming every 2 minutes lasting more than a minute each so I was getting absolutely no down time. I could barely count to 20 before another one hit. Around 2:30am the nurse decided I was definitely in labor and that we would remove the cervidil because it was working too good. She was hoping my contractions would slow down a bit so I could catch a break. They never really slowed down, they just got stronger and longer. She checked me and I was still what I was when I came in (3cm) so that was really discouraging! I laid there for another 2 hours tossing and turning. I hated being stuck in the bed. If I got into a comfortable position for myself, the monitor for the baby wouldn't track him and would start beeping. If I laid where his monitor picked him up, then I was miserable. By the way, this whole time Scott was sleeping! He got a good 4 hours of sleep and I don't think he even knew I was in labor! There were times I was moaning through contractions and he didn't budge! (Yes Scott, I am holding this against you forever! =) Around 4am I asked the nurse to check me again and she said I was 3 1/2 cm now. I think she was being kind to make me feel like I was getting somewhere! I told her how uncomfortable I was so she unnattached me from the machines so I could walk around. I was excited to get up and do what I wanted to help with the pain. I wanted to walk the halls so I got Scott up, got all ready and we made it to the door. I couldn't do it, the pain was awful! I headed straight back to my bed and sat strattled over the corner edge of the bed rocking back and forth while Scott rubbed my back. (Thanks Scott!) I did this for almost 2 hours. The contractions were still not giving me a break in between and I was exhausted. Scott wanted me so badly to get the epidural at this point because tears were streaming down my face with each contraction and I had been up all night. I wanted to wait until I made progress so I kept saying no. Around 6am the nurse came in, still no progress, and she offered some pain medication or a hot shower. I told her get me the epidural! I was so frustrated that after 6 hours of labor I hadn't progressed at all!

I got the epidural just after 6am and I couldn't believe I waited so long! I felt so great! I could finally relax. Around this time my mom showed up so she never even saw me in pain!
Around 8am my doctor got there and immediatly decided to break my water. When she did I went from 3cm to 5cm. Two hours later, around 10am, I started feeling a ton of pressure. It came in waves and felt like I needed to push. I pushed the epidural button thinking it was just wearing off. After 15 mins of letting it start to work I still felt all the pain and pressure through the epidural. I paged the nurse and got checked at 10:30am and I was at a 7. After she checked me I instantly felt even more pressure. With each contraction I felt the urge to push more and more. I was gripping the bed rails just to keep from pushing. At 10:45am I paged the nurse again and she raced in to check me and I was at a 10 and ready to go! This is where panic ensued in the delivery room. Nurses were racing around like crazy! I was holding back tears because I knew in a matter of minutes I would be meeting my SON. It was happening, it was so surreal! My doctor showed up quickly and I began pushing around 11 am.

Zachary Scott Nave was here!
My doctor knew he was huge and couldn't wait to weigh him! He was a whopping 9 lbs 14 ounces! My doctor then proceeded to tell everyone there that this very scenario is why she shouldn't have to wait until 39 weeks to induce patients with big babies! This is obviously medically necessary to have gotten him out sooner! (Medically necessary for me, wow this was a hard recovery!) I still cannot believe I popped an almost 10lb baby out in under 10 minutes! CRAZY!

Scott took me to The Melting Pot for an early anniversary/one last date night before the baby gets here! The girls got to spend the night at my Mom's!

My doctor scheduled me for an induction this Tuesday, the 21st, at 9pm. I really was hoping to go into labor on my own but it's not looking like it will happen before the induction date. He is a big baby boy, estimated at 8lbs 11oz, so it's best for both baby and I to get him out asap. So Tuesday evening it is! Wish me luck!

Baby Celebration

My sister-in-law and I are both pregnant and due within about 2 months of each other. We are both expecting little boys so we decided to have a combined baby celebration! It was a lot of fun and there was a full house!

Everyone was so generous, our little guys are already very spoiled. All of the blue stuff is so different and surreal to me! I am so used to pink and fluff! I love preparing for this little guy, it's very exciting!
